Make Music Day Madison at the Bartell
Held annually on June 21 to coincide with the Summer Solstice, Make Music Day is part of the international Fête de la Musique taking place in more than 2,000 cities around the world. The day-long, musical free-for-all celebrates music in all its forms, encouraging people to band together and play in free public concerts. This year, over 150 U.S. cities and the entire states of Connecticut, Hawaii, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, Vermont, and Wisconsin are organizing Make Music celebrations, encompassing thousands of music-making opportunities nationwide.
The Bartell Theatre invites you to join the celebration June 21st on our intimate Evjue Stage. Grab a beer or a glass of wine and enjoy our featured performers.
- M Shays 10:00 am
In the heart of Madison’s vibrant music landscape, M. Shays emerges as a singer-songwriter of captivating charm and unique talent. Listeners can perceive the subtle hints of Meggie’s musical influences in her work. While these influences add layers to her sound, it’s her unique approach to songwriting and performance that truly defines her music.
- Thurayya Middle Eastern Ensemble 11:30 am
Middle Eastern ensemble featuring lutes, drums and other special guest instrumentalists – contemporary interpretations of classical instrumental pieces, muwashshah (Arabo-Andalusian poems set to Maqam music) and ilahi (Turkish Sufi poems) on oud, frame drums and other instruments. 100% acoustic!
- The Raging Grannies 12:30 pm
The Raging Grannies of Madison have fun singing songs of political protest and satire. We refuse to be silenced, and will sing out against those things that harm the planet we will leave to our grandkids.
- Mad City Ukes 2:00 pm
Mad City Ukes is a vibrant community of ukulele players whose singing and strumming quickly draw the audience into the joy of music. Established in 2011, the group plays music from the 1920s, vintage rock, modern pop and more.
