Bartell Theatre Health & Safety Update – 8/13/2021

August 13th, 2021

As we gear up for a return to live theatre this fall, we once again are turning to the CDC and local health officials for guidance. With the alarming rise in new COVID variants we want to take extra steps to ensure that those who attend shows at the Bartell, as well as those performing and working there, are as safe as possible. The Bartell Theatre Foundation will therefore require proof of vaccination against the COVID-19 virus for all audience members coming into the theatre. In addition, the Bartell will also require proof of vaccination for all cast members, crews, volunteers, and staff working in the theatre. With many of our fellow theatre companies and other large events in the state announcing similar guidelines, the Bartell feels this is a natural step and one that will benefit all in the community. The Bartell will also enforce a mask mandate within all spaces open to the public. Backstage areas may remain mask optional so long as the entire cast and crew are vaccinated. For up-to-date information on the Bartell’s COVID policies, please follow our Facebook page and check our website before attending a show for the latest information.

WHEN ATTENDING A SHOW:

When attending a show as an audience member, you must show proof that you meet the CDC definition of “fully vaccinated” by showing either your physical CDC vaccination card or a photo of it on your smartphone. You will also be asked to wear a face mask at all times unless you are actively eating or drinking. Those unwilling to comply will be denied entry.

EXEMPTIONS:

We will offer exemptions for those unable to be vaccinated, such as children under 12 and people with certain medical conditions preventing vaccination. We ask, if possible, these patrons provide proof of a timely negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours before performance start time. We also ask that those wishing to use this option please call the Bartell box office ahead of time at 608-661-9696.

VOLUNTEERS, CASTS, & CREWS:

Volunteers, casts, and crews working with specific shows should contact their respective producers to provide proof of vaccination before entering the Bartell for dress rehearsals or performances. Masks must be worn in any space that is actively open to the public such as the lobby or the theatre house when it is open. Some producers may elect to require masks backstage as well and you should contact your producer for more information. If someone backstage has an approved exemption and cannot be vaccinated, the backstage space will automatically be a mask-required space except when actively performing on stage.
