After a successful premiere in Chicago in 2022, StageQ is excited to announce the Sophomore production of “Laced.” In the aftermath of the Pulse Nightclub shooting and before the 2016 election, three bartenders at a small town Florida gay bar come to work to find the bar has been vandalized. Rattled, the three close coworkers work to piece together the previous evening. In the telling, each share intimate thoughts and experiences. Fiery and poetic, Laced ferociously celebrates the spaces in which we find our truest selves and the spectrum of ways the LGBTQ community comes together in the face of hate.
Against a world that makes you feel unsafe, a moment of joy is an act of rebellion.
“[Playwright, Sam] Mueller makes some relatable observations about queer life in their 90 minute one-act. Mueller digs in deep on the idea of what makes queer relationships; romantic or otherwise, different from the heteronormative standard. In doing so, they build a compelling case for why queer spaces need to be defended.” – BuzzNews, Chicago
““Laced” portrays the need for happiness not as sentimentality or escape but as a hard-nosed and battle-ready response to a harsh world. Its characters’ trials and triumphs show that joy can be thrown like a brick, like a molotov cocktail, like a party.” – New City Stage, Chicago
This production contains loud dance music, flashing lights, intense blackout moments, and water-based haze.
